Trade Account is a module for PrestaShop stores that puts a gate between retail visitors and wholesale prices: business customers apply from their account, your team approves or rejects, and approval itself switches the buyer onto trade pricing. Setup is choosing the wholesale customer group and deciding which details applicants owe you.
It settles the oldest problem of mixed retail and trade selling. Publish wholesale prices and every visitor sees them; vet buyers by email instead and someone copies VAT numbers into a spreadsheet while genuine trade customers wait days. The module replaces both with an application, a queue and a decision that takes effect the moment it is made.
The applicant fills in company name, VAT number, business type, trade references and a message, and you decide which of those are demanded. Your team works a newest-first queue that filters by name, email, company, VAT number, status and date, opens an application to read it whole, and approves or rejects with a note, one at a time or in bulk. An auto-approve switch grants trade status instantly when your market prefers low friction, and a second application from an account already pending or approved is refused.
Approval assigns the customer to your trade group and makes it their default, so every wholesale price, discount and rule attached to that group applies at once, prices are shown without tax for approved traders, and a minimum order amount protects trade terms. The customer's account carries a permanent status page: under review with its date, approved with the company, or rejected with your written reason. Your team hears about each new application by email, and the applicant learns the decision the same way.
Wholesale prices stop leaking to the public, vetting shrinks from email threads to a filtered queue, the approved buyer starts ordering at trade terms the same minute, and every application lives in your own shop with no outside service involved.
Summary of what the module offers
Trade Account turns trade-customer vetting into an application, a queue and a decision with immediate effect. This page answers six questions:
- How a retail account becomes a trade account: the in-account application you shape
- How the team reviews: a filterable queue, notes, bulk decisions, optional auto-approval
- What approval changes: trade group pricing, tax-free display, a minimum order amount
- What the applicant sees: a permanent status page, including the reason for a rejection
- Who is told what and when: notifications for your team and for the customer
- Where the data lives: in your own shop, with no outside service

How does a business customer apply?
From the customer account. A signed-in customer opens the Trade Account page and submits company name, VAT number, business type, trade references and a message. You decide which of those the form demands, so a strict market asks for references while a fast-moving one asks only for the company.
One account holds one live application. Whoever already has one pending or approved is refused a second with a clear message, so the queue never fills with duplicates and nobody wonders which of three submissions counts.

How does my team review applications?
In a queue built for triage, newest first, with the applicant, company, VAT number, status and date in columns you filter: by name, email, company, VAT number, status or period. The pending count is visible before the first click.
Opening an application shows everything the customer wrote. The decision is approve or reject, each with a note, and both exist as bulk actions for clearing a backlog. When your market calls for no friction at all, one switch approves every application on arrival.

What changes for an approved buyer?
Approval moves the customer into your trade group and makes it their default group, so every group price, discount and rule you configured applies from that moment across the whole catalogue. There is no second step in which pricing is set up.
Approved traders see prices without tax, the way trade buyers compare them, and a minimum order amount keeps trade terms reserved for trade-sized orders. Both are switches, on when your business works that way and off when it does not.

What does the applicant see while waiting, and after?
A permanent page in their account, always current: under review with the submission date, approved with the company name, or not approved with the reason you wrote. The rejected applicant reads your reason instead of writing to support.
Email carries the news as well: your team is notified when an application arrives, and the customer is notified when the decision falls. Nobody refreshes an inbox and nobody chases nobody.

Where does the data live, and how small is the setup?
Every application is stored in your own shop. No outside service receives the company data, no third-party content loads in the storefront, and uninstalling the module preserves the application history.
Setup is one screen in three tabs: pick the trade group, set the requirement switches, choose the notifications. From there the module runs itself, and the queue is the only place your team needs to visit.

Works Well With B2B Account Approval, Trade Account
Modules our team genuinely pairs with this one, and exactly why each belongs in the same setup.
A merchant running Trade Account gates wholesale access, letting business buyers apply for trade status while keeping trade pricing hidden from ordinary shoppers, with a Back Office queue for approvals. Once approved, a business buyer likes to read prices the way a trade buyer does, which the account workflow itself does not control.
Tax Display Switcher is a separate tool that lets visitors choose tax-included or tax-excluded prices while browsing, with toggle, button or dropdown styles and configurable defaults, without changing real tax rules. It handles price presentation only.
Used together, Trade Account decides who becomes an approved business customer and the switcher lets those buyers choose the ex-VAT figures they prefer to read. A merchant gets controlled trade admission plus a flexible price view, two complementary tools where one governs access and the other lets buyers pick how prices appear.
A merchant using Trade Account runs an application and approval process so only vetted business buyers gain trade access. Granting trade status is the entry point; offering those approved buyers a way to pay on invoice terms is a separate capability the account workflow does not include.
B2B Deferred Payment Terms is a distinct tool that adds invoice-style checkout for logged-in customers whose groups have active terms and whose carts stay within configured credit rules, seeding Net 15, Net 30 and Net 60. It handles the pay-later mechanism on its own terms.
Run alongside each other, Trade Account establishes the vetted business customer and the terms module offers a deferred-payment option such customers may use, with approval and terms remaining your own manual decisions rather than one automatically entitling the other. A merchant gets a clean path from trade application to invoice-terms checkout, two complementary B2B tools used in sequence.
A merchant running Trade Account collects business details, including VAT numbers or trade references, when buyers apply for wholesale access, then reviews each application in a Back Office queue. Confirming that a supplied VAT number is actually valid is a checking task the application form does not perform on its own.
Automatic EU VAT Checker is a separate governance tool that validates EU VAT numbers through VIES, gives live feedback on address pages, can require a number when a company name is entered, caches results and stores validation details for review. It does its own validation job.
Used together, Trade Account manages the approval workflow while the checker provides documented VIES validation of the numbers applicants give, with a valid number never automatically approving an application, which stays your decision. A merchant gets a controlled trade queue plus a reliable VAT-check trail, two complementary tools each owning part of B2B vetting.
A merchant using Trade Account fields wholesale applications and works through approvals, which is the start of a longer relationship that generates back-office tasks well beyond the initial decision. Coordinating the orders that follow is a separate operational need.
Advanced Order Workflow is a distinct tool that adds a shared Back Office workspace with teams, custom statuses, assignments, internal comments, mentions, attachments, reminders, notifications and reporting, mapping native order states to responsible teams. It organises the work after an order is placed.
Run alongside each other, Trade Account governs who becomes a business customer and the workflow module coordinates the team handling their orders. Orders that result from approved trade accounts still flow through the same post-order workflow, so a merchant running a growing wholesale operation gets both controlled admission and clear ownership of the surrounding work, two complementary tools where one manages access and the other keeps the tasks moving.
