PrestaShop theme setup with a child-theme safety net

A theme install is not just uploading a ZIP and clicking enable. PrestaShop themes bring dependencies, demo modules, hook positions, image sizes, templates, cache behaviour and update risk. If the first setup is careless, every future change becomes more fragile. This service installs and configures an existing theme, creates a safe child-theme structure where supported, checks key module compatibility and leaves the store in a launch-ready state rather than a demo-state.

What we configure

We set up the theme against your real store: PrestaShop version, languages, modules, logo, basic colours or theme settings, menu/header/footer positions, homepage blocks where the theme supports them, image regeneration needs, cache and compilation settings, and the core modules the theme expects. We do not treat the vendor demo as the goal; the goal is a stable storefront your team can maintain.

Child theme first

Where the theme and PrestaShop version allow it, we create a child-theme structure so custom CSS, templates and minor changes do not live directly inside the vendor theme. That usually means a separate child theme folder with its own configuration, inherited assets, override templates only where they are needed, and a clear place for shop-specific CSS or JavaScript. The parent theme stays as close to vendor-supplied as possible, so updates are not blocked by forgotten edits.

A child theme is not magic, and we will not pretend it makes every vendor update risk-free. It does make ownership clear: parent theme code is vendor code; child theme changes are your store's changes. Image, hook and module compatibility checks

Theme failures often show up after the install, not during it: cropped category images, blurred thumbnails, modules missing from hooks, reassurance blocks in the wrong column, or checkout templates that no longer match your payment module. We check the image types the theme expects, whether regeneration is needed, and whether the product, category, cart, checkout, account, menu and footer hooks still contain the modules your store relies on. If a module was written for a different theme structure, we call that out instead of hiding it as a cosmetic issue.

What we verify before handover

• Theme health: theme enabled, required assets present, cache/compile settings stable and no obvious fatal front-office errors.
• Child-theme safety: the safe edit location is identified, parent-theme edits are avoided where possible, and the handover explains where future changes should live.
• Image sizes: product, category, manufacturer and thumbnail image types are reviewed for obvious mismatch, cropping or regeneration needs.
• Module compatibility: key modules still render in the expected hooks, especially product, cart, checkout, account, menu, footer and reassurance areas.
• Mobile sanity: header, navigation, search, category filters, product page, cart and checkout are checked for broken spacing, hidden controls or unusable touch layout.
• Purchase path: product add-to-cart, cart summary and checkout entry are smoke-tested so the theme is not merely attractive on the homepage.

What is deliberately excluded

This is setup, not custom design and not content migration. We do not rebuild your brand, redesign templates from scratch, migrate every CMS/product/category block, rewrite copy, crop a full image library, build new banners, create new module behaviour or recreate a vendor demo pixel for pixel under this fixed starting price. Those are quote-based tasks. If the theme cannot support the layout or behaviour you want through existing options, we will say so and scope the correct next step instead of hiding design work inside setup.

When to review before setup

If you are still choosing a theme, start with the Theme Suitability Review. It checks candidate themes for version support, child-theme safety, module hooks, performance, mobile UX and accessibility before you buy. When that review leads to a theme we can safely install, the review fee can be credited toward Theme Setup. That bridge keeps the advice honest: we are not paid to force a weak theme into service. If the theme is wrong for your store, module stack or checkout, we tell you before setup money turns into repair work.

Launch-ready handover

At the end you get a handover covering installed theme, child-theme location, configured areas, image-size notes, modules checked, mobile/product/cart/checkout observations, known exclusions and any items that need a separate quote.
